The Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad discussed the master’s thesis entitled (Sustainable urban planning strategies to reduce the carbon footprint of energy consumption), by the student Hussam Ahmed Abdul-Ali, and supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Suad Jaber Lafta. The thesis aimed to study the issue of energy consumption in cities where people are located, due to the major environmental challenges resulting from the rise in carbon emissions, which requires finding the necessary solutions through the consumption process of various energy sources. The thesis also aimed to measure the electronic footprint of energy consumption and the relationship between land use and energy consumption and analyze the results through descriptive and quantitative analysis using the SPSS program.<\/span><\/h4>\n

The thesis also dealt in its chapters with the process of urban metabolism, greenhouse gases, types of energy sources, and the carbon footprint of energy consumption in residential areas that are witnessing continuous population growth. The student researcher presented, through the practical aspect, results that give an indication of the continuous population increase in cities, as the study area in Al-Zafaraniya has witnessed a high and continuous population increase since 2010.<\/span><\/h4>\n

The thesis recommended the importance of following sustainable planning strategies that enable reducing the carbon footprint of energy consumption in the study area (Al-Zaafaraniya).<\/span><\/h4>\n
