The Center for Urban and Regional Planning, Graduate Studies at the University of Baghdad, witnessed the discussion of the master’s thesis entitled (Renewing Public Space through Local Interventions Using the Concept of Urban Acupoints), by the student Wafaa Muthanna Yaqoub, and supervised by Professor Dr. Amer Shaker Khader. The thesis explored the role of urban acupoints as an innovative strategy in the context of urban renewal and studied the two concepts separately, and employed this strategy to enhance social interaction after renewing urban spaces through small and responsive interventions that enhance the activity and sustainability of specific areas in the city. The student relied on studying practical cases and specific experiences around the world that applied the urban acupoint strategy after analyzing the literature related to it and the renewal based on it.<\/span><\/h4>\n

The thesis concluded that urban acupoints have become represented by public transportation, organizing walking, organizing spaces between buildings and open areas, in addition to encouraging urban participation by residents after applying urban acupoints and going beyond the physical dimension such as social and cultural aspects that contribute to strengthening local identity and developing a sense of belonging among residents.<\/span><\/h4>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
