Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad discussed a master\u2019s thesis entitled (Urban Sprawl on the Outskirts of Cities and its Impact on City\/Diyala Bridge District), by the student Nour Tahseen Kazem, and supervised by Professor Dr. Hussein Ahmed Saad. The thesis aimed to analyze the phenomenon of urban sprawl in the Diyala Bridge district. In southeastern Baghdad, the thesis examined the impact of the phenomenon of urban sprawl on sustainability, and the negative effects of this random phenomenon on the outskirts of the city of Baghdad in a way that led to the deterioration of the reality of the city\u2019s economic, social, physical and environmental condition. Confronting urban sprawl has become dependent on the relationship between planning, organizing and directing this phenomenon and its spatial indicators.<\/span><\/h4>\n

The thesis concluded that urban sprawl in the Diyala Bridge area has affected the urban axis and distorted the urban nature of the region and the expansion of the city, in addition to the continued phenomenon of slums and the difficulty of reaching its parts.<\/span><\/h4>\n

The student recommended the need to expedite the development and implementation of the master plan for the city of Baghdad, which is compatible with the changes and circumstances that have occurred recently in conjunction with the high population increase.<\/span><\/h4>\n
