The Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad witnessed the discussion of a master\u2019s thesis entitled (Continuity of the Green System for Social Interaction and Organization of Urban Life), by the student Hussein Hani Muhammad, and under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Hussein Al-Janabi. The research aimed to evaluate the connectivity of green and open areas within the urban space in a way that ensures social interaction and organization of urban life, according to the hypothesis that planning and organizing green and open areas in (the city of Kufa – the study area) can achieve better communication and social interaction among the residents of the city.<\/span><\/h3>\n

The theoretical part of the thesis consisted of two parts. The first focused on the concepts of the system, the green city, green areas, organizational patterns, and levels of green networks, while the second touched on the concept of social interaction and communication, the relationship of communication to interaction, and the factors influencing social interaction and the formation of communicative relationships within the urban environment.<\/span><\/h3>\n

As for the practical part, it dealt with the city of Kufa according to four morphological stages, and the first stage was excluded because it represents the ancient city, which is a special case. Thus, three neighborhoods were chosen according to the other three morphological stages of the city of Kufa, adopting the QGIS program.<\/span><\/h3>\n

The thesis concluded that the Al-Mutanabbi neighborhood in Kufa is the closest to implementing social communication and interaction, while the Al-Jadidah and Al-Jumhuriya neighborhoods in the same city are the furthest, according to the results of the analysis of the questionnaire form and the sensitivity analysis.<\/span><\/h3>\n

The thesis recommended that the concerned state departments should re-plan residential neighborhoods of an agricultural nature, as they do not include green areas in addition to other services in an actual or realistic manner.<\/span><\/h3>\n
