The Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad discussed a master\u2019s thesis entitled (Activating the Role of Spatial Planning in the Urban Security System for Iraqi Cities) by the student Zaid Abbas Obaid, and supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Ammar Khalil Ibrahim. The research studied the problem of weak link of the relationship between spatial planning for land uses and strengthening the urban security system in the city of Baghdad due to the delay in updating its basic plan.<\/span><\/h3>\n

The research also aimed to achieve planning indicators that would enhance urban security and control the reduction of the incidence of crimes in the future, by adopting the hypothesis that spatial planning has an effective role in raising the level of security and reducing crime by relying on spatial techniques and modern programs used in planning, dividing and organizing land uses.<\/span><\/h3>\n

The research concluded that the spatial dimension in the planning process has a significant impact on achieving urban security, as well as the presence of a clear deficit in security services.<\/span><\/h3>\n

The researcher recommended the necessity of relying on spatial planning to provide urban security in cities and the importance of involving security agencies in the planning process of new cities and taking into account planning standards when specifying the location of security services.<\/span><\/h3>\n
