The Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad discussed a master\u2019s thesis entitled (Application of the Complete Streets System in Developing the Urban Environment), by student Hossam Nassif Jassim, and supervised by Professor Dr. Firas Thamer Hamoudi.<\/span><\/h4>\n

The thesis examined the role that complete streets can play in developing the urban environment (Yarmouk neighborhood) in Baghdad, which suffers from traffic congestion and the problems associated with it. Thus, the research problem was summarized in the weakness of traditional planning policies that focus on vehicles and their negative repercussions on the urban environment, as cities that depend entirely on cars with functionally different transportation systems that are not efficient or suitable for living.<\/span><\/h4>\n

The research aimed to demonstrate the possibility of applying the complete streets system to make the urban environment suitable for community requirements and make the streets vibrant and encourage active transportation.<\/span><\/h4>\n

The researcher concluded his thesis with the need to develop public transportation in the four-street area in Baghdad, and develop an effective public transportation system that includes buses, trains, metro, and bicycles after providing infrastructure and a safe network of bicycle lanes after re-planning the street in a way that guarantees the safety of pedestrians by providing suitable spaces for them. On the sidewalks and including green paths and benches for seating, as well as attention to environmental diversity and enhancing the study area with plants and trees after focusing on developing the infrastructure of the streets of the Yarmouk area as they are not at the required level after the results of the study showed that there is a significant impact on the development of the urban environment for each of the infrastructure axes in study area.<\/span><\/h4>\n
